A Case of (Way) Too Much Camera
After much discussion, we decided to return the really cool camera I bought Dawnise and replace it with one that's slightly less cool, but overall way more appropriate and useful for the person and purpose.
Oh yea, and about 1/5th the cost.
The Rebel body and mid-range lens was only about $800 (less a $100 rebate that ends today), but to get the 36 to 432mm range that the S3 offers would have meant spending another $1400 on a lens.
I'll probably end up buying myself a digital SLR at some point, but it was pretty obvious that I was buying it for "her" when all she really wants is to turn on the camera, rack out the zoom, and start pressing the shutter. The SLR offers more control, and more options (and better quality), but sometimes more control and more options really just means unnecessary complexity.
The best camera is the one you have with you - and that you like using.
