I Think I'm Approaching a Decision

Before leaving for Scott & Amanda's on Saturday morning, I drafted a thanks-but-no-thanks email to all the folks at exbiblio, and one to Kathy, Jay and Gabe at Valve.

I wanted to see which one "felt" right.

Whenever I think about telling exbiblio "yes" I'm sorta flat. Every time I think about telling Valve yes, I react in the pit of my stomach.

I'm not really sure what that reaction means, though. The position at Valve scares me more, which I think is good. And it feels like experiencing the completely non-traditional structure of the company would be an interesting perspective. Since most of the companies I've worked for have basically "played by the rules" and organized along either vertical or horizontal lines (save Real, which wants the cost-savings of a horizontal model with the agility of a vertical model, and in trying to do both pays the price in several ways).

I can't help but think I'm throwing away a valuable opportunity either way.

Crap.

I'd say at this point, it's about 7:3 in favor of Valve. Just call me John Kerry...
