Whirlwind Tour

Dawnise flew down to So. Cal. last Tuesday for a conference in San Diego.

Friday night I had dinner with some folks from work before heading over to the Conor Byrne for Scott's birthday show.

Edmond was kind enough to let me crash at his place - I got in around 2:45, caught a couple hours of sleep, and was up at 5:30 to catch a flight down to meet Dawnise.

She picked me up in Vince's Vett' with the top down and we drove to Geoff & Kathye's place to see them, the kids, and their shower (I smelled like an ashtray). From there we hopped back in the Vett (I got to drive :) and headed out the 10 to meet Dawnise's folks for lunch at TGI Fridays. (Amusing anecdote - while Dawnise was looking at the drink menu she noticed that a drink formerly-known-as the Louisiana Hurricane is now just the Hurricane, thanks to an overzealous history revisionist with a sharpie.)

After lunch we piggy-backed on her parents Sam's club membership to do some shopping for the get-together that evening, and while we were there we took advantage of the fact that club stores in CA sell hard liquor. Replenished our stock of the basics - Rum, Vodka, etc. etc.

From there it was back to Vince & Donna's place to start prepping for the shindig. They got home from the wedding they were in (any Chainmail irregulars lurking out there - Lummox got married) shortly after we did. We spent the rest of the afternoon prepping for the party, and the first guests arrived around 5:30.

It was most excellent to see everyone - we hope you all had as nice a time as we did. After living in the northwest for about a year I can say with some conviction that the people we left behind are the only regret we have about the move. We appreciate you meeting us half way and keeping those friendships alive.

The party was a blast - and Donna's calzones were a huge hit, as always. We really can't thank Vince & Donna enough for hosting - there was a lot of work involved, and we're very privileged to have that kind of friend.

Sunday we had planned to head to BC Cafe for breakfast, but decided we'd just stay home and make breakfast instead. Vince made waffles, Donna made potatoes and sausage, and we sat around their table eating, talking, and generally enjoying their company.

In the afternoon we made a trip to M&L for Dawnise, and then went over to Beverages and More to finish our liquor supply run.

From there back to their place to pack (holy crap alcohol is heavy ;), and then a trip over to their new house. We wandered through the model and looked at the sticks - it should be ready early next year.

Our final stop was for a late lunch/early dinner at Dave & Busters. The service was sub-par, and pretty much everything was cold (including my salad, which was just as well), but it couldn't put a damper on the day.

The flight home was uneventful - we say next to some players from a women's tennis team who clucked the whole way home - mostly about weather one of them did or did not leave their cel phone in their golf bag.

Like I care.

Got home, got a car to the ferry, and Brad was kind enough to give us a lift from the ferry station to our place.

We finally got to sleep a bit before 1 after cleaning up the mess that Junior felt necessary to leave us as a welcome home gift. Now that took some of the glimmer off the day, but Dawnise stopped me from chucking the cat off the balcony, and in the morning most of my homicidal tendencies have subsided.

This morning we had the dry wall guy and the window company come out to size up some repairs, and I'm on the 10:25 ferry into work.
