Fried Green Tomatoes

We just got back from Seattle, where we had dinner with Tony, a good friend of ours from Boston who's been in town on vacation for the past week and a half. We ate at the Five Spot, and the current theme is food from the American Heartland. Tonight was a Hurricane relief event - half their proceeds are being donated to relief efforts. The food was good, as usual, and I tried fried green tomatoes for the first time.

Delish'.

Tony arrived a week ago last Friday for Bumbershoot. He asked, before leaving Boston, if there was anything he could bring me. I replied, mostly in jest, "not unless you can swing by Chez and pick me up a Cuban and a Periodista."

I'll be damned if the guy didn't arrive on Friday with two Cubans in a cooler - ready to be finished off in the oven. What a friend... I seriously miss that place - not to mention the folks (Clark, Eswar, you know who you are) I used to hang out there with.

On Saturday evening Tony, Larry, Edmond, Harry and Holly came over to our place for dinner and the Improv. We ended up getting to the theater just before curtain, only to find that the place was sold out (good overall but bad for us), so we went back to our place and hung out for a bit before shuttling our visitors back to the ferry.

On Sunday we went into Seattle and met up with Tony. We had brunch at the Crumpet shop in Pikes, and spent the day doing touristy stuff like the Experience Music Project, and riding to the observation deck of the Space Needle before meeting another ex-OpenMarket type who's up here in Seattle for dinner Sunday at Ipanema. We ate way too much and had a great time catching up.

On Tuesday night Tony met me on the ferry home from work, and he spent Tuesday and Wednesday night at our place.

Yesterday Dawnise had a quilting class, and I went into Seattle and met Tony for lunch and a trip through the Science Fiction Museum.

He has a morning flight back to Boston tomorrow, so we went over for a last meal and to say farewell. It was really good to see him again - made me acutely aware of how much I miss the folks I met while working at Open Market.

Gotta find an excuse to get back there, grab Clark and Eswar, and have a proper dinner at Chez.
