Party Like it's 1979...

I'll never eat again.

At least, not 'till tomorrow, when I stop feeling like my stomach is ready to explode.

Brian, Dina and Lucas, Ian and Mary Ann, and Dawnise and I had dinner at The Melting Pot - a fondu restaurant. We had a great time joking about all the fondu sets that are given as wedding or house-warming gifts and ultimately find their way into a garage sale. In fact, I posited, it's likely that they haven't actually needed to manufacture a fondue set for over a decade; that the world has all the fondue sets it will ever need.

All joking about the mode of cooking aside - the food, and company, were excellent.

We managed to converge on choices fairly quickly. We started with a traditional Swiss Cheese fondue in one pot and a "Fiesta" fondue - cheddar cheese, salsa, and diced jalapeno peppers in the other. After polishing off a fair bit of apple, bread, and chips, we moved on to salads; Dawnise had a chefs, and I had the roast duck salad that accompanies the "Big Night Out" meal. The entree course consisted of shrimp, beef, peppered pork, duck, and chicken, along with ravioli. Ian and Mary Ann had the vegetarian entree, which included a lovely selection of mushrooms. Since they eat fish and Dawnise doesn't, they got some of the shrimp in return for an artichoke heart. Both versions came with additional vegetables and a variety of dipping sauces ranging from the mundane (teriyaki) to the obscure (gorgonzola and port, and something with wasabi).

We had one pot of Coq Au Vin and the other was the "Mojo"; (pronounced mow-hoe, though we took a perverse pleasure in pronouncing it as Jim Morrison might) a citrus concoction that was very tasty.

About 3/4 through dinner Lucas had had enough, so Brian finished eating and walked him home while Dina and the rest of us ordered desert. One pot of unadulterated dark chocolate, and the other was milk chocolate with flambeed marshmallow creme and graham crackers, accompanied by fresh fruit, brownie, pound cake and cheese cake.

Wicked.

The waiter warned us we'd be "Thanksgiving full," he did not lie.

Put a fork in me...
