Boredom and Claustrophobia

We slept late this morning - it was pretty much the first weekend since we've been here that we didn't have something we needed to do, and sleeping in was a nice change.

Trouble is - there was nothing we needed to do, and the one bedroom apartment is starting to feel really cramped.

We went to breakfast at the Tea & Crumpet shop, walked back through Pikes, and wandered through a few of the furniture stores on Western Ave near the apartment. Some absolutely beautiful, heirloom quality, stuff - but $4000 for a sideboard is more than I was looking to spend.

We decided to go over to the island to visit the house and see how much progress had been made since our last visit. I checked to confirm that there was bus service, and we walked onto an afternoon ferry. Got off on the other side and, viola, no bus.

Grumble.

We had just started to walk into town when the bus passed us heading toward the ferry - so we turned around and trotted back down the hill to catch it. A few minutes and $2 later, we were heading up route 305 to the bus stop at Hidden Cove - an easy one block walk from the house.

We spent an hour and a half or so looking around the house. There wasn't as much progress as I had hoped, and it's making me wonder if we're really going to close at the end of the month. The kitchen and bathroom counters are mostly in - and the granite looks great against the oak cabinets. A couple more doors had been hung, but none of the outside cement (like the driveway) or deck work had been started yet, and that worries me.

Found a few things that we hadn't noticed before that are really daft - like the placement of the sink in the main floor powder room. It's at the same end of the counter as the commode - so you have to stand between the commode and the sink when using it. Dumb. Oh, and the ceiling fan in the family room only has one wall switch, and is mounted on a cathedral ceiling, so even I - at 6'2" - can't reach the fan pull-chain.

We caught the bus back into Winslow and checked out a few of the shops downtown before catching the next ferry back to Seattle.

In other news, Dawnise's drivers license expires on her birthday this Friday - so she had to go get her WA licenses (car and motorcycle) this past week. Oh, and did I mention that the CA registration on her car lapses on the 10th of February? If we end up having to register the car with a Seattle address, we'll have to pay the Monorail Tax -- very annoying (and expensive). To top it off, we don't have insurance up here yet 'cause we've been putting it off 'till we had a permanent address.

Tomorrow we're going to Costco (ooh, how exciting) and possibly taking the Underground Tour of Seattle. Thought about going to the Science Fiction Museum, but maybe next weekend.
